Marc Smason

As a child in texas, his mother taught marc to sing. he studied classical and jazz trombone in seattle and in los angeles with stu dempster (and dijeridu), julian priester, ken cloud & slide hampton. voice, with jay clayton (jazz), yo jin chong (korean) & ki wasitodipuro (javanese).

Marc enjoys teaching trombone and jazz vocal privately and in school workshops.

Marc's composed & played for film, tv, theater and dance & performed throughout the world with such luminaries as bennie green, the funk brothers, baby gramps, big joe turner, carlos santana, eddie henderson, hadley caliman, type a, andy statman, perry robinson, sam shepard, julian priester, sonny simmons, jeff johnson and the ivar's clams. his playing encompasses many styles including jazz, latin, klezmer and r&b.

Smason sounds like the kind of horn player who could walk into any date and acquit himself with distinction. That mastery goes beyond the surface; he seems to have a feel for many styles…
